Mason McTavish has been in trade rumours for a while however a new report shows that it could be closer than ever with teams like the Maple Leafs checking in on him.

Mason McTavish is just 23 years old, already a proven and consistent NHL goal scorer and has all the tools to be one of the best power forwards in the league. Anaheim isn't exactly happy with his production though considering a down season, and could be looking to move him - and a new report from David Pagnotta shows the Maple Leafs are very interested if he becomes available.

McTavish, 23, had just 41 points in 75 games this season but is only a season removed from a 22-goal, 52-point campaign in 2024-25 which he also added 70 hits and won over 50% of his faceoffs.

Pagnotta reports that the Maple Leafs, Blues, and Jets have all checked in on Mason McTavish

But he's also been subject to heavy trade speculation for as far back as last summer, as there were reports in August 2025 that he could use a change of scenery. Well, he's signed until 2031 and if Anaheim is still feeling buyer's remorse, then they may have locked themselves into a bad situation.

Though a new report from David Pagnotta shows that McTavish certainly has his interested parties with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues all interested in bringing in the young power forward.

It isn't too surprising to see both the Blues and Jets involved, as St. Louis is looking to make several moves to get younger and are willing to dish off talent, meanwhile the Jets have to find a way to get competitive once again.

Toronto makes a lot of sense given that he fits into both their win-now window and a future retooling as he is years away from his prime and could become one of the best power forwards in the league, especially alongside someone like a Gavin McKenna.

A 23-year old centre coming off a down season is exactly the high-risk, high-reward move John Chayka needs to make

Now we're not saying that the Ducks are suddenly giving him away for peanuts, but this is a player who John Chayka can afford to pay a little extra for.

McTavish is someone who fits perfectly as the top-six power forward on the second line alongside William Nylander, is a natural centre who can slot in as the 2C, and also provides reliable and consistent scoring.

His goal totals the past four seasons are 17, 19, 22, and 17. That's not a player who went ice cold and couldn't score. That's solid production from a player who is just at the apex of his early 20s.

Toronto adding that, along with the physicality, speed and versatility to a line that includes William Nylander and Easton Cowan could lead to an impressive amount of offence.

Also, he's worth $7-million until 2031 so it's a fairly reasonable deal for a young proven power forward and is just a shade under the Matthew Knies contract. Plus, he doesn't have trade protection until 2029-30 so if he doesn't work out, there are ways to get out of it.

Toronto should be willing to spend on this, and shouldn't be shy about sending a package with picks, prospects and NHL-ready talent:

To Toronto:

(F) Mason McTavish

To Anaheim:

(F) Nick Robertson
(G) Dennis Hildeby
(D) Noah Chadwick
2026 3rd Round Pick

That solves Toronto's Robertson dilemma, as well as the waiver issue with Hildeby come next season. Anaheim can always use another puck-moving youngster and Toronto already has a couple young ones at their disposal while the pick is a sweetener.

This is the type of move that makes teams better, and Toronto can easily find replacements for the players dealt away. A chance to bring in McTavish is a chance to bolster the lineup for potentially the next decade.
