The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered an injury scare as forward Steven Lorentz got bumped awkwardly and headed to the dressing room.
Saturday's contest between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings kicked off with a bang as the blue and white got off to an early 2-0 thanks to goals from Calle Jarnkrok and Nicolas Roy.
But it was the third part of that fourth line that's drawing the attention as forward Steven Lorentz took an awkward hit and ended up leaving for the dressing room.
Toronto can't afford to lose another part of their bottom-six as they already are without mainstay Scott Laughton who is out a few weeks after blocking a shot in the preseason.
So far this season, Lorentz has two assists in two games to go along with two blocks and six hits.
Unfortunately for the Maple Leafs it seems whatever is ailing Lorentz is going to keep him out of the rest of the game, as he had not returned at all during the second period and was not seen on the bench.
The Maple Leafs official PR account on X confirmed that Lorentz would be out the remainder of the game:
Fan reaction shows that while he may just be a fourth-line player, the energy and passion he plays with is infectious.
Toronto trails Detroit 3-2 after two periods of play.
This is a developing story. More details to come.
