As the Toronto Maple Leafs set to take on their Original Six rivals on Saturday night, the lineup looks ready to make an impact; including one very welcome surprise.
While Friday night saw no NHL games on the schedule, Saturday night is a different story with all 32 teams being involved in a jam-packed but nonetheless entertaining slate of contests.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to take on their Original Six rivals, the Detroit Red Wings. Coming off a 5-2 win over Montreal in the season opener, they look to make it two in a row against an Atlantic Division foe.
Detroit is coming off a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the Canadiens, so Toronto is looking to pounce on their lack of confidence heading into Saturday night.
Who The Toronto Maple Leafs Will Put On The Ice vs. Detroit
Speaking of, who is going to be lining up for Craig Berube when the Maple Leafs take the ice?
It's a lineup that seems extremely familiar to last Wednesday's season opener:
Knies - Matthews - Maccelli
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Joshua - Domi - Robertson
Lorentz - Roy - Jarnkrok
Rielly - Carlo
McCabe - Tanev
OEL - Benoit
If it isn't broken, don't fix it seems to be the motivation behind Berube's decision, although there seems to be one glaring omission.
It's going to be really tough for fans to stomach the fact that Easton Cowan is not going to be making his debut.
While there is still the possibility he does, there is no real guarantee that Craig Berube wants to alter his lineup any further, thus leaving the rookie out of the equation.
But not all hope is lost, as clearly the team has a plan for him and with their schedule having Detroit again, Nashville, and the New York Rangers ahead of them, those might be games he sneaks into.
The fact of the matter is he needs to be playing wherever, and if the team doesn't think he can factor into things right away, then it's best to let him go to the AHL.
As much as things can change, it looks like on Saturday night they will remain the same for the time being which isn't a bad thing whatsoever.
