SportChek Sparks Outrage After Trolling Maple Leafs Ahead of Panthers Series
Sports apparel retailer SportChek is under fire for their latest move, which involved displaying a very prominent sore spot for the team ahead of the second round.
With the Maple Leafs
set to do battle with the Florida Panthers starting on Monday night, there is going to be an influx of fans who are racing out to get the latest memorabilia whether it be a jersey, a hat, or limited edition case of beer.
Retailers are going to be busy in the coming days and potentially weeks especially if the team makes a big run, but they have to get through the reigning Stanley Cup Champions before they do so; a team that added their biggest enemy in
Brad Marchand.
Leafs fans rolled their eyes at the fact that they would need to see Marchand again after Boston wasn't going to sniff the postseason.
While it was a savvy move to get rid of a potential free agent, the Bruins could have at least shipped him out West and saved the Eastern Conference a huge headache.
But it's not the only thing Maple Leafs fans should be rolling their eyes at, and they need to be a bit frustrated with SportChek after their latest endeavor.
It seems the store didn't get the memo about Marchand being Public Enemy #1, and they prominently displayed his jersey in a case amidst a stack of Maple Leafs t-shirts.
SportChek Rooting For The Enemy? Let's Hope Not
We can hope this was an honest mistake and not a malicious or bitter fan of a rival hockey team trying to upset fans.
We all know how much Marchand is hated in Toronto, and the fact the team needs to face him again makes everyone mad, and why they couldn't put an
Auston Matthews or
Morgan Rielly jersey is unknown.
Considering the price of the jersey is nothing to sniff at, it's a wonder why the team would promote something that wouldn't necessarily sell in a Toronto market; however it could be used by some more passionate fans to show their disdain for the forward.
All we can hope for is that these jerseys collect some dust, and you'll find them in the clearance bin next to the other former players who failed or were cast aside by their teams.
Though come free agency, it might not be too surprising to see Marchand throw on a blue and white jersey of his own.
