The Toronto Maple Leafs have been without Mitch Marner for quite some time now. More recently Morgan Rielly has joined him with a minor injury. Today head coach Sheldon Keefe gave an update on each of their statuses.
Sheldon Keefe provides update on Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been missing Mitch Marner since it was revealed he has a high-ankle sprain. The Leafs have had mixed results without Marner in the lineup, with their most recent game being a very dissapointing 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils. After the game, Sheldon Keefe called out captain John Tavares for not being a good example on the ice.
Sheldon Keefe says he's expecting a «great» response from John Tavares:
This morning, the Leafs head coach gave us updates on the status of Marner and Reilly, both of whom missed last night's game. Unfortunately, it sounds like Marner will continue to be out for at least a few more days.
Sheldon Keefe says Mitch Marner will remain out the next two games but will rejoin practice on Friday.
That sets him up for a potential return some time next week.
Marner has already missed eight games with a high ankle sprain.
Morgan Rielly on the other hand, remains day-to-day. However, he did say that the 29-year-old blueliner would likely miss tomorrow's game against the Washington Capitals.
Morgan Rielly questionable to play Thursday.
Marner last played last Sunday when the Leafs lost 2-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The team could certain use him as they are in a tight race with the Tampa Bay Lightning for the third spot in the Atlantic division. Tampa Bay is just two points back with one less game remaining than Toronto. However, the team is red-hot, having won 8 of their last ten games. The Lightning also have an easier schedule compared to the Leafs down the stretch, making the race very interesting.
This should spark a fire under the Leafs as they look to secure their spot in the standings. We shall see how they play against the Capitals, whoa re also desperate to stay in their own playoff race.
