The San Jose Sharks have no issues breaking the bank for Simon Edvinsson as they reportedly are willing to offer something no other team really can.

With all the discussions about where Simon Edvinsson will go, he's been linked to several teams such as Toronto, Seattle, and St. Louis but it's anyone's guess where he will actually end up.

He's a young shutdown defender who can help any team not only presently but be a big part of their future and be a young piece for years to come. It's not going to be cheap, nor will it be quick as Detroit is willing to wait until Dec. 1 to get a deal done.

The Sharks may provide the most lethal trade package for Simon Edvinsson

But one team may accelerate those talks simply because of their ridiculous wealth of riches.

The San Jose Sharks are also another team who are in the mix for Edvinsson and according to Sharks beat reporter Sheng Peng, the team is willing to part with a package that would set Detroit up going into the future:

A source told San Jose Hockey Now: Filip Bystedt, Igor Chernyshov, and Keaton Verhoeff were all up for grabs, but I don't know the combination.

Well then, that's something that many other teams can't offer. Bystedt is a 22-year-old hulking power forward who just put up 22 goals and 60 points with the Barracuda of the AHL and is poised to be a top-six staple for a long time.

Chernyshov was San Jose's 33rd overall pick in 2024 and is another big winger at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds - and only 20 years old. While currently hurt, he is putting up a decent season with the Sharks, and has already proven he can be a reliable NHL talent.

Verhoeff was San Jose's 9th overall pick in the 2026 Draft, and after he was potentially expected to go in the top-three, fell to the Sharks at nine and added even more potential to a team full of young stars.

There's no way Toronto can offer that level of package unless they want to get rid of Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, Tyler Hopkins, Artur Akhtyamov, or even Gavin McKenna. They have assets sure, but the Sharks hold vast riches - they can't compete.

Detroit really shouldn't say no if San Jose wants Edvinsson

If Detroit is willing to part with Edvinsson, it isn't like they are going to be getting spare parts.

Bystedt and Chernyshov can immediately step into the lineup, plus with Bystedt being a Swede - there's already a deep connection to other players like Albert and Anton Johansson, Axel Sandin-Pellikka, and Lucas Raymond.

Verhoeff replaces Edvinsson though he's still a bit away from the NHL leap, currently playing for the University of North Dakota and getting his reps in the NCAA. But he's expected to be a top-four defender in the NHL and someone who Detroit can build their blue line around.

Not many teams are able to offer a hybrid package that involves NHL-ready players who technically could count as futures - their combined average age is 20 years old. That's essentially a draft pick already made for you - you just need to develop them now.

Which is why the Red Wings can't ignore the Sharks if they decide to spread the wealth, because it might be the only chance Detroit gets to kill two birds with one stone.
