Scott Laughton pulled off a wild slap shot attempt on a breakaway against Carolina on Sunday, and while it didn't work, he revealed he's not going to shy from trying.

When the Maple Leafs ended up acquiring Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers at the trade deadline, he was expected to bring in not only some much needed defense to the forward corps, but also bring some much needed secondary offense.
While his tenure with the team hasn't really gone according to plan, he's still expected to play a big role in the playoffs and does have experience being a solid presence and playoff performer.
He tried to get things going ahead of the postseason with a breakaway attempt against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, and while he ended up hitting iron, it was still a valiant effort from a usually defensively minded player.
Commenting on the attempt, Laughton admitted that while he got unlucky, it's not going to stop him for trying it again if given the chance:
It didn't work out, but will probably use it again in the future if I get another one. It didn't go in, but thought it was the right play

Laughton scored on a slap shot breakaway earlier this season so the precedent was already set.
While he hasn't found his offensive stride with the Maple Leafs, there have been some serious flashes of brilliance with him and if we can see a resurgence of that type of play during the playoffs? It's going to be amazing for Toronto.
Oh, he also scored four goals in a game this season and no that isn't a typo.
Since coming over to the Leafs, he's put up only two points in 18 games with a minus-5 rating, but does have 17 blocks and 43 hits in that span.
For the season, Laughton has 29 points in 78 games (12G, 17A) with a brutal minus-22 rating, 50 blocks and 172 hits split with Philadelphia and Toronto.
If he can get his game back to where it was earlier this season then the Maple Leafs made the right call at the deadline.
But he'll need some of those slap shots to go in to give fans the confidence the team made the right move.
