After Tuesday's game vs. St. Louis, Craig Berube revealed that forward Sammy Blais, who left the game in the third period, had been coughing up blood.

As Toronto secured a 3-2 OT win to snap a five game losing streak, the team lost another player as forward Sammy Blais left the game in the third period and did not return.
Post-game, Berube explained that after Blais went back to the locker room, he was coughing up blood.
There is no clear indication of why Blais was coughing up blood, or what led to any potential injury, however it is clearly a scary incident.
Blais had a solid game in his minimal time on the ice, registering an assist, a plus-1 and four hits in only 6:31 TOI but left the game with roughly five minutes left to go in the third and wasn't around in overtime.
When you hear of a player coughing up blood, it can indicate something serious, so Blais will almost certainly be evaluated further, and we may need to wait for the team to provide more information on exactly what happened.
He was claimed off waivers Oct. 6 as the Maple Leafs looked to add more depth after suffering through injuries however Blais now joins an ever-growing list of Maple Leafs players who are on the shelf.
It's an unfortunate incident that hopefully is less dire than at first glance.
