Ryan Reaves Trade Sets the Market for What Leafs Could Fetch for Jarnkrok and Kampf

Late on Thursday evening, the Toronto Maple Leafs were able to
swing a trade for veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves, trading him to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for young depth defenseman
Henry Thrun.
The move gets Toronto out from under Reaves' contract, brings in a solid insurance policy for their aging defensive corps, and gives the team a bit more cap space in order to make another deal for a top-six forward, or add a bit of extra money for a player like Jack Roslovic or Victor Olofsson.
Toronto can get a great return for Kampf, Jarnkrok
But it also gives them another key bit of information, and it involves some of their other veterans, namely David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok. If the Leafs can get not only a player, but a young one with upside; then they can surely get something for either man.
With both of their signing bonuses paid out, they are incredibly cheap options that offer much more overall that Reaves, so it sounds feasible that they can at least get a mid-round draft pick for the players, or even get a player like Thrun with potential.
There's a good chance that a team like Minnesota, Nashville, Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles could use a veteran two-way forward like Jarnkrok, or a defensive and penalty killing specialist like Kampf, and several of those teams can offer enough assets.
Heck, even if the team were to get two 3rd or 4th-round picks for Jarnkrok and Kampf, they can also use those as sweeteners for a trade to bring in that top-six player like
Jared McCann; who
the team has been linked to heavily in recent weeks.
Toronto has no room for Kampf and Jarnkrok with new philosophy
Kampf, 30, had 13 points in 59 games for the Maple Leafs (5 goals, 8 assists) while offering Toronto a reliable fourth-line center who is great at killing penalties, winning face-offs and can bring a bit of offense as well.
He makes just a shade over $2-million after his bonus was paid out on July 1, and has two years left on his current deal; Kampf also holds a 10-team no trade clause as well.
Jarnkrok, 33, played sparingly for the Maple Leafs last season, only skating in 19 games after recovering from sports hernia surgery. He managed seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) but was essentially a non-factor.
He can give a team a veteran presence who can play wing or center, win face-offs, is smart defensively and has the ability to score 10-15 goals; and with him being motivated after a rough 2024-25 he could surprise some.
Jarnkrok makes the league minimum after his bonus was paid out; and for a reliable and consistent 3rd/4th liner that's pennies on the dollar.
So if Toronto can convince San Jose to take on Ryan Reaves and his fairly bloated contract then there's certainly a market for David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok.
Brad Treliving just needs to keep being aggressive.
