Ryan Reaves can't stop talking about the Toronto Maple Leafs, and regardless of whether it's good or bad, the fans are tired of hearing from the former forward.
You can look at Brad Treliving's decisions as GM of the Maple Leafs and scratch your head at several of them.
From trading away Fraser Minten and a first-round pick for Brandon Carlo, to signing players like Max Domi and Steven Lorentz to long-term and expensive extensions, to basically giving up on making any deals to improve the team last year - with a terrible trade deadline to boot.
Ryan Reaves gives surprising praise for the Maple Leafs' treatment of players
But there's one that could be argued as one of the worst, and it was the contract handed out to Ryan Reaves. Expected to add toughness and physicality to the lineup, he barely fought and was a detriment at both ends of the ice. They shipped him off luckily, but there's no reason he should have been signed to a multi-year deal.
He keeps popping up now and again with comments about the Maple Leafs and while they haven't always been positive - his latest are actually quite endearing to his former club. Reaves spoke to JD Bunkis on his podcast and explained the treatment he got from Toronto during his time there:
The team treated you better than any other team in the league. There's a reason why wearing that jersey is so special.
-
You may not like Reaves but he does have a point, as it's well-known from several players who have either arrived or departed that the way the Maple Leafs conduct business is top-notch. Troy Stecher was vocal about how Toronto treats its players, especially when it comes to amenities and transportation - things that other teams overlook.
Reaves may feel well-treated, but Leafs fans feel cheated
Though don't go asking Maple Leafs fans to do a 180 and start liking Reaves, as many are getting a bit exhausted with how he continually pops up and talks about the team even after he's long gone:
-
-
Some people were pointing to Bunkis as being unable to read the room, as Reaves was simply someone who didn't need a platform:
-
Others were simply just stunned:
-
There is genuinely no positive comments regarding Reaves' statement, with the other one seeped in a sarcastic tone. Reaves was certainly a person who wasn't liked quickly, and isn't going to be making amends anytime soon.
Fans are not too pleased with how Reaves is trying to save face after criticizing the team on the way out, though that doesn't take away from the fact that the Maple Leafs treat their players well even if the fanbase isn't exactly happy about them being there in the first place.
Do you think Ryan Reaves cares too much about the Toronto Maple Leafs?
