Potential Monster Deal on the Toronto Horizon?

It is no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the market to improve the roster before heading into the playoffs. They have holes at forward, especially with the three UFA forwards signed being quite underwhelming, and of course, on defence.

Hockey analyst and past general manager has a plan for Toronto

Craig Button was on TSN discussing what he believes the Maple Leafs should do if they wish to have a long playoff run:

«Be ready to act on any option that makes your team better. You have this really good group of what I call five players and now your team is functioning and you know where you're at, you know where your weaknesses are or where you need to be stronger. Are you going to keep nibbling or nipping at the edges or are you going to go after it?

I've heard again and again and again about the Toronto Maple Leafs' belief in their core, and they should have belief in their core. Well now, go and help the core. You're not going to win unless you get deeper, unless you become a deeper team. I'm talking about specifically on the blue line, there is just no way.

To me, that's what I mean about being bold and if you're not going to be bold, you're throwing it up to a hope and a prayer. Hope and prayer is not a plan for me.»

It is clear Button wished the Maple Leafs to be bold and really go for it, and it can happen if they address getting a top four defenseman.

Going for the Stanley Cup is the best scenario for the Leafs

You know the saying "go big or go home"? That is what Toronto needs to do. Auston Matthews is on pace for 70+ goals, Tavares is slowing down, Nylander is having a great season that saw him ink a new massive contract, and the team has been winning in-spite of porous goaltending.

Brad Treliving needs to kick the team into gear and go for broke.
