Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving's past comments on Nazem Kadri and his words spark a ton of extra speculation towards a potential reunion according to
There's no idea to whether other not Kadri will end up getting traded though if the Flames somehow falter this season it is a very good possibility. So he could end up back in Toronto and help his former squad to glory, even though it'll cost a fortune.
Brad Treliving very complimentary towards Nazem Kadri amidst trade rumors
But GM Brad Treliving doesn't seem to concerned about the potential cost though and his recent comments on Kadri and his attitude as a player shows that the team has some severe interest, and that he would fit right in:
The one thing that sticks out about Kadri is he likes the stage. There's some people that embrace it, maybe some people shy away from it. This guy, he loves the stage. He's an ultimate competitor.
The bright lights and big stage, he relishes that. Some cower, others embrace it. He fully embraces it. He's a winner, he's got that attitude and he's got that aura around him that he's here to play for keeps.
We know how Treliving feels about passion, and if the Maple Leafs bring him onto the other side of e squad it could get really dangerous for certain teams. Kadri is a talented offensive player no doubt, but he's also got a mean streak and doesn't put up with any nonsense.
Kadri come home: Why Nazem would make Toronto better and meaner
Even if his older age has meant he mellowed out a bit, there's still a fire inside Kadri that burns, and the competitive nature he has plays perfectly into the new-look Maple Leafs squad.
There has been speculation that Calgary is not going to play ball with Treliving due to some rocky history, however if the former Flames executive feels he can get a deal done for Kadri, he's going to target him; he signed him there in the first place after all.
But adding that passion to the team while also giving them that top-six forward they desperately need (moving
John Tavares to the wing) is going to give the Maple Leafs the deepest and potentially meanest lineup they've put out in the
Auston Matthews era.
Kadri, 34, had 67 points in 82 games last season for Calgary (35 goals, 32 assists), narrowly missing out on the postseason.
He won a Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2022 after being traded from the Maple Leafs in a deal involving
Tyson Barrie and Alex Kerfoot; a trade the Leafs regret dearly.
So while there is nothing solid about Kadri coming over, and Treliving never flat out stated he was looking to trade for him, the admiration and interest is there.
Is the cost just going to be too much?
