There was some sad news out of the hockey world on Monday as former goaltender and color commentator Greg Millen sadly passed away.

The 2024-25 NHL season has been sadly filled with several passings, including that of both Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau last summer, as well as former players Stephen Peat and most recently, Mark Laforest; it's been terrible year in terms of news about a player's death.
Well sadly, the NHL can add another name to the list, as former NHL goaltender, and CBC broadcaster Greg Millen sadly passed away suddenly on Monday, the NHL Alumni Association announced. Millen was 67.
An excerpt reads:
It is with heavy hearts we share the sudden passing of Greg Millen today.

He played 14 seasons between the pipes in the National Hockey League for six teams: the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings. Over his NHL career, Millen appeared in more than 600 regular-season games.

After retiring from professional play, Millen transitioned to broadcasting. He began by covering the Ottawa Senators during their inaugural season in 1992-93.

His broadcasting career includes roles as a colour commentator for CBC's Hockey Night in Canada and the NHL on Sportsnet, where he worked alongside Hockey Night in Canada Greats Bob Cole, Harry Neale, Don Cherry, Ron MacLean and Jim Hughson.

Millen ended up transitioning from the Senators to the Maple Leafs in the mid-2000's and also ended up calling the Olympics. He also held positions with Leafs TV and was also a member of the Calgary Flames broadcasts for Hockey Night in Canada.
Tributes poured out from around the NHL, as former colleagues, teams Millen was involved with, and hockey personalities all paying homage.
Millen is survived by his wife and four children.
We here at Hockey Patrol would like to offer the sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Greg Millen. May they find some peace and comfort during this clearly difficult time.
