The Toronto Maple Leafs released the numbers their two new players would be wearing today.
It's safe to say fans don't like the choices.
Maple Leafs Cause Controversy With New Numbers
Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty are great additions to the Leafs roster.
Firstly, Jake McCabe will wear #2, which has been worn by an incredible 29 other Leafs.
Others to wear this number are Ian Turnbull (1974-1982), Wade Belak (2001-2004), Brian Leetch (2004), Luke Schenn (2009-2012) and, most recently, Ron Hainsey (2018-19).
The controversial choice, however, is Sam Lafferty's #28. Worn most recently by Joey Anderson, and equally worn by Kasperi Kapanen and Connor Brown, the number will always be tied to Tie Domi.
Domi was a true beast, and is remembered in a very positive manner by Leafs fans. While Anderson, Kapanen, and Brown all had the same controversy when they wore the number, it feels even more bitter with Lafferty.

Hopefully this new iteration of #28 will help the Maple Leafs win the cup. That would surely cool the controversy.
