The Maple Leafs are set to make a stunning announcement regarding the future of their executives on Thursday as the team rebounds from another playoff failure.

As the Maple Leafs set to decide what to do with their future regarding several of their players, one person who was potentially on the outs was Team President Brendan Shanahan, as his contract is set to expire shortly.
According to sources however, Brad Treliving might also be on the hot seat, as it was announced Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) was going to hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss and present the future of the team.
While not set in stone in terms of the content of the meeting and we don't have any true idea what will be discussed, changes are certainly expected to be coming, and it is probably starting at the top.

Brad Treliving's Seat Just Got Scorching Hot

It would be quite the stunning turn of events for the Maple Leafs given that it's arguable that Treliving was one of the main reasons Toronto improved this season.
Yes they didn't get the results they wanted, but he added pieces like Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Anthony Stolarz, Max Pacioretty, and was able to sign several big-time free agents from the NCAA level.
However, it could be argued that he handed out a few expensive deals in that free agency to bring people in, plus his trade deadline while fairly decent; could be considered a failure given who Toronto could have had, and saw him get rid of two fan favorites in Fraser Minten and Nikita Grebenkin.
Treliving was brought in to replace Kyle Dubas in May of 2023, and much of this season surrounded his inability to re-sign Mitch Marner; though it turns out that's no fault of his own.
For Shanahan however, the writing seems to be on the wall, and after the so-called 'Shana-Plan' failed spectacularly, coupled with his expiring deal, his office was packed up long before this announcement.
Brought in to turn things around back in 2014, his 11 years at the helm saw them draft Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, as well as bringing in names like Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, and trading away Phil Kessel for Kasperi Kapanen.
But it was also marred with a ton of failure. He never built a team able to progress past the second round, and often found themselves constantly disappointed, with the same questions being asked year after year.
All we can do now is wait and see what exactly MLSE has in mind. It could be a reveal that Shanahan and Treliving are out, and someone like Rob Blake comes in to help out instead.
But whatever happens, you can certainly expect another new direction for the Maple Leafs, hopefully one that leads them to the success they so desperately need.
