Brad Treliving's fate as the Toronto Maple Leafs general manager has been revealed following Brendan Shanahan's departure.
The Leafs announced earlier today that Shanahan would not have his contract renewed by the team following 11 seasons as Toronto's President, a decision made by the Leafs parent company, Major League Sports & Entertainment (MLSE).
Toronto has reportedly made a final decision on GM Brad Treliving, and where he stands with Shanahan now out the door.
According to Sportsnet Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman, Treliving will remain as the Leafs General Manager, continuing in his position for next season.
TSN's Chris Johnston reports that Treliving will not be any different situation next season, meaning he will not be taking the Leafs now vacant role as President.
Brad Treliving To Remain As GM, Won't Take On Shanahan's Old Role
The Leafs will not be moving Treliving out from his role as GM, and as of right now will keep the President position open, left to be filled if the team chooses to for the 2025-26 season.
MLSE President & CEO Keith Pelley will address media tomorrow about the decision not to extend Shanahan, and it'll be seen if the status of Treliving, as well as head coach Craig Berube, will be touched on.
It will become a focus point the future of Assistant GM Brandon Pridham, who some have pegged as a potential future GM, and someone who has been linked to the Leafs job since the Kyle Dubas days.
Pridham has been with the Leafs since 2014, and has been the AGM since 2018, considered a top salary cap expert.
What Happens Next For The Toronto Maple Leafs With Shanahan Gone?
With Brendan Shanahan gone, it's now or never for the Leafs to be a playoff contender, and now may not be for long.
The current Leafs already face even more change as the team still needs to re-sign
Mitch Marner,
John Tavares, &
Matthew Knies, not guaranteeing that Toronto looks vastly different next season no matter what.
The dismissal of Shanahan puts a bigger focus in getting these contracts done onto Treliving, and will have him more the driving factor of getting those deals completed or if they choose to walk.
If the Toronto Maple Leafs cannot progress in the Stanley Cup playoffs, they will be forced to make
even more drastic changes than Shanahan, and even now are having tough conversations on what there future is, and who it'll involve.
