The Anaheim Ducks came out victorious thanks to Mitch Marner's turnover, and while fans are happy he didn't win the game, it was a reminder of Toronto's recent skid.

Some Maple Leafs fans are still wrestling with the loss of Mitch Marner, and with every new loss come more questions about whether or not the team should have let him go or did everything they could to keep him around.
He's thriving in Vegas meanwhile Toronto is floundering however some recent play should give fans a little bit to feel good about -- but not much.

What actually happened on Mitch Marner's overtime turnover

During Saturday's game against the Anaheim Ducks, Marner pulled off something very Maple Leafs-esque when he coughed the puck up in front of his own net for and Anaheim sealed the deal.
It was an atypical play from a player who normally doesn't make those types of mistakes however it goes to show that no matter the level of talent, you're still susceptible to a mindless error.
But it also harkens back to what the Maple Leafs went through with Marner, and it doesn't make anyone feel better.

Why this moment hits differently for Maple Leafs fans right now

Fans are taking to social media to voice their opinions and it seems like the general consensus is that things haven't changed even if the jersey has for #93, and point to his time with Toronto as a reminder he's not exactly perfect:
Wait till he starts to whine and stomp his skates. This is why we let him leave. Very entertaining and skilled, just competes for himself.
Right now, Marner is in a much better position in Vegas, but fans are still going to hold onto what could have been, and seeing Marner still forcing old habits and knowing he has a chance to get frustrated quickly has some fans arguing it reinforces why the Leafs didn't extend him.
But the results speak for themselves as Toronto is 9-10-2, struggling heavily with injuries and the atmosphere around the team is grim.
Perhaps Mitch Marner would have helped out the team this season, but considering making the same types of mistakes that have also hurt Toronto this year -- it might not make a difference anyways.
