Rumors were swirling that the Leafs would possibly offer Max Pacioretty a professional tryout (PTO), but they have instead chosen the route of a standard contract, as per NHL insider Darren Dreger.
Max Pacioretty is going to fit in nicely in the Leafs' top-six forward group, likely alongside John Tavares and Mitch Marner, and will bring a wealth of experience and leadership for the younger players on the team.
The former captain of the Montreal Canadiens, Max Pacioretty was drafted by the Hans back in 2007 in the first round, with the 22nd overall pick. He went on to play 902 career NHL games, having scored 330 goals and 338 assists, for a total of 668 points.
He only played in 47 games with the Washington Capitals last season as he battled injuries, putting up only four goals and 19 assists for 23 points. He is definitely looking to rebound with the Leafs.
More details to follow.
