The team visited the Colorado Avalanche last night where they were able to secure the victory by a final score of 4-3. The win extended the Leafs' winning streak to seven games, a season high for the team. The team is also 8-2 over their last ten games as they have finally found their groove.
The team was able to defeat the very good avalanche largely thanks to the efforts of one player in particular. It was a big night for Tyler Bertuzzi as the offseason acquisition proved his worth in this contest.
The 29-year-old winger recorded his first career hat trick as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, providing three of the team's four goals against the Avalanche. Making matters more interesting is the fact that it happened to be his birthday.
The accomplishment proved to be particularly special as Bertuzzi became the first player in Leafs history to record a hat trick on his birthday.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a tradition of handing out a player of the game award every time the team wins a game. This has become a common tradition for NHL teams. Last night, Bertuzzi was the obvious choice as he earned the team belt on his birthday.
however, this was not the only special prize he got for his performance in the game. As the team was boarding their plane, Max Domi recorded a video of himself singing a silly version of happy birthday to Bertuzzi. He subsequently posted the video on his Instagram story.
Needless to say, Domi won't be hired by anyone to sing anytime soon.
As seen on Max Domi shows his goofy side, tries to embarrass Tyler Bertuzzi in post birthday win video
