Matthew Tkachuk Mocks the Maple Leafs in Blunt Comments Ahead of Round 2 Showdown
Matthew Tkachuk had some harsh words towards his second round opponents, calling out the Maple Leafs ahead of their first game on Monday night.
There's no love lost between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs. A rivalry that has
emerged only recently, the two are constantly neck and neck for Atlantic Division supremacy, and while Florida has had more success in the postseason, this is a new Leafs team.
Matthew Tkachuk doesn't seem to think so though. Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, he was asked how he feels heading into the second round against a revamped Maple Leafs team and held nothing back in his assessment of the situation:
It's Round Two. We've been in way more high pressure games and series than this.
It was short, but filled with bitterness towards his opponents, and essentially cutting them down and saying they aren't going to be an issue could come back to haunt him badly.
Matthew Tkachuk Should Keep Words Sweet...He May Eat Them Later
Leave it to a Tkachuk to make a comment though, and if it's not Brady, it's going to be Matthew.
The two were menaces during the 4 Nations Face-Off and were the catalysts in that trio of fights in the beginning of their first encounter. They kept goading and mocking Canada, only to lose in the end.
He's been unlike anything we've seen this season, and he's shown that he can produce when it matters.
That's not good news for Tkachuk and company, and this is a Leafs team that is worlds apart from 2023.
Their goaltending has been superb, and while there's still some questions around
Anthony Stolarz, the results speak for themselves.
Joseph Woll is no slouch either, and if anyone can shut the Panthers down in the critical moments it's the young goaltender.
Defense has improved dramatically, not only due to the signings and acquisitions made this season, but the addition of Craig Berube behind the bench, with Lane Lambert as an assistant.
Both men are defensively savvy minds who strive for hard work and relentless recklessness; something we never saw back then.
Granted, the Panthers are at full strength and did add some serious pieces, including Toronto's notorious enemy in the postseason,
Brad Marchand.
He's had a solid postseason thus far, and it's going to be key for the Maple Leafs to shut him down and not let him get into their heads like he did when he played for Boston.
But there's no guarantees in the playoffs, and while Tkachuk can ooze as much confidence as possible, he's not understanding how important and hungry this team really is.
