Now that Mark Giordano has completed his contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, it seems as though the New York Rangers are very interested in signing him.
Giordano became a free agent on July 1st at age 40, after the Leafs decided not to re-sign him to a contract. Giordano was the oldest player in the league last year, but still has desire to continue playing.
Michael DeRosa of NHLTradeRumors.com has stated that the NY Rangers are closing in on signing the veteran defenceman.
«The New York Rangers could consider taking a shot on Giordano. When looking at their left side, it is clear that Giordano could compete for a spot on their bottom pairing if signed. In addition, he would give them another veteran with great leadership qualities, which would certainly be good for a contender like the Rangers.»

Due to his age, Giordano would likely slot in the 6th or 7th defensive position for the Rangers, and they would be able to get him at a bargain. Reports coming out are saying the deal would likely be only for the league minimum salary.
At that price, and with all of the leadership and experience he brings, this signing would be a no brainer. Mark is an all-around, great humble guy.

No doubt, Leafs' fans are sad to see him go, but with all of the cap issues Toronto is facing, there simply was no more room for Giordano to fit in their roster.
