It was an unfortunate start for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Max Domi as the team announced the veteran forward had tweaked an injury ahead of training camp.

A lot of the focus this season is on whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs can stay healthy after a campaign filled with injuries to key players like Auston Matthews and Anthony Stolarz among others.
This year was supposed to be a lot different however it seems the injury bug has decided to strike early for Toronto.

Max Domi Dealing With Lower-Body Injury to Start Maple Leafs Camp

According to head coach Craig Berube on the first day of training camp, he revealed that veteran forward Max Domi had tweaked a lower-body injury and he was going to be day-to-day and will not practice fully on Thursday.
Domi dealt with some injury troubles last year as well, and the dreaded day-to-day moniker that caused a lot of pain a year ago has emerged from its hibernation to wreak havoc already.
The forward was supposed to be a key part of the first line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies, although now it seems like Matias Maccelli might get the bulk of the attention until Domi gets healthy.
Domi skated in 74 games last season for the Maple Leafs and put up 33 points (8 goals, 25 assists) in one of his worst offensive seasons in his career.

Domi's Health Could Impact the Maple Leafs' Early Chemistry

Although this seems to be nothing serious when it comes to his outlook for the season, it's still a bit frustrating that not only have the Leafs already have to deal with injuries but that it was to someone who has probably the most chemistry on the top line.
It's been no secret that Berube wanted to put Domi up top with Auston Matthews due to their history and chemistry together; now that gets put on hold while he tries to see if anyone else (like Maccelli) can gel with the captain.
But it could also be a sign that the Maple Leafs may need to add another body or two through a PTO (Jack Roslovic anyone?) as a means to make sure they have enough insurance; if we're already seeing injuries it's a horrible look.
All we can hope for this year is that when a player hits the shelf on a day-to-day basis, that doesn't turn into weeks or months like it did last year.
This is the year of changes, and perhaps transparency with the team's injuries is a good addition to their new identity.
