With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to improve their blueline, Simon Edvinsson has become a target, and discussions are taking place behind the scenes.
The Detroit Red Wings don't want to trade Simon Edvinsson, and their asking price is proof of that. They want roster players, and good ones at that. This means the Leafs would likely have to give up an Easton Cowan or perhaps even Ben Danford.
However, if the Red Wings can't come to an agreement with Edvinsson and a trade becomes inevitable, then perhaps their price will come down.
What we do know for sure is that the Leafs have, indeed, engaged in trade talks with the Red Wings for Edvinsson. They want to improve the blue line, and they understand Edvinsson would be a massive upgrade, as well as some youthful exuberance.
According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, there is a development regarding Edvinsson's situation. It's a development that the Leafs must pay attention to.
As it turns out, Edvinsson and his agent met with the Red Wings recently. However, it wasn't as productive as both sides were hoping for.
I would say there's news is that I can confirm that Simon Edvinsson and his agent, J.P. Barry, met face-to-face with Red Wings GM Shawn Horcoff over the weekend. And, you know, sort of all laying their cards on the table. I don't sense that, obviously, there was any resolution to come out of it. But those types of meetings are important when something like this drags out.

For Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka, this is an absolute gift. It means that the Leafs could still have a chance at acquiring Edvinsson.
The Maple Leafs defense must get younger
If you have been paying attention, you'd know that the Maple Leafs have one of the oldest blue lines in the league with Chris Tanev, OEL, Morgan Rielly, and Jake McCabe. Even Darren Raddysh isn't a spring chicken.
There are very few young defenders on the Toronto Maple Leafs, and something needs to be done about that; otherwise, the blue line will continue to be an issue.
For now, this remains Chayka's top priority, and Leafs fans want him to get something done sooner rather than later.
Do you believe Simon Edvinsson can help the Toronto Maple Leafs?
