The son of Toronto Maple Leafs GM assistant and former NHLer Shane Doan has signed a blockbuster multi-year contract.

Toronto Maple Leafs GM assistant Shane Doan's son, Josh, has signed a seven-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres with a $6.95M AAV, netting nearly $49M on his new deal.
Doan, 23, is in his first season with the Sabres, having been traded to Buffalo alongside Michael Kesselring in the deal that sent J.J. Peterka to the Utah Mammoth.
Shane Doan, currently the assistant to Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving, played 21 seasons in the Coyotes organization, having played his first season with the Winnipeg Jets before their relocation to Arizona.

Josh Doan gets big payday in first season in Buffalo

The all-time leader in Coyotes organization history in games played, goals, assists, & points, Shane Doan joined the Leafs executive branch in 2023, having been involved in decisions regarding the team.
Like his father, Josh made a relocation move after his first year with his dad's old club, the Coyotes, as the team moved to Utah after his rookie season.
Josh has 15 goals, 20 assists, & 35 points in 49 games this season for the Sabres, having been one of the team's top youngsters on a Buffalo roster stacked with youth.
Doan was projected by the Athletic's Don Luszczyszyn as a player who's value indicated a potential expansion worth just a hair under $10M.
A strong two-way forward, Doan has the potential to become a marquee two-way forward in the league, comparing similarly to Matthew Knies as a potential scenario in his upside.
Key to an inexperienced youth roster, Josh Doan could be a key asset for the Buffalo Sabres as the team matures and hits their stride, and is paid long-term into what is his prime years.
