Toronto made the first of what could be several changes, as they have let assistant Marc Savard go after he failed to help the team get to the next level.
On Monday evening the Toronto Maple Leafs fired Marc Savard in his second season with the team.

Savard was hired as part of Craig Berube's contingent brought in last season, and was expected to help elevate the Maple Leafs power play. While he did manage to get them to a 9th overall ranking last year, he plummeted to the basement in power play success in 2025-26.
Marc Savard's firing potentially not the only move coming
The 13-year veteran has been a coach since the 2019-2020 season where he was part of Craig Berube's group while he was in St. Louis. After being let go, he was head coach of the Windsor Spitfires, before heading to Calgary to help their special teams.
There is no indication if there are more firings or who is going to replace Savard going forward.
It's the first domino to fall in the Maple Leafs quest for change, and it might not stop at Savard, however it was a good start nonetheless. He never really was able to utilize all the pieces given to him, and the fact he couldn't find any success with such a talented group meant he wasn't the man for the job.
As to who could replace him, the team could go internally however may also take a look at former head coach Bruce Boudreau, who has a load of experience running not only a team, but working on the man advantage.
This could also indicate that the team is not going to be making any drastic changes and hope that perhaps a new assistant is the answer, but it doesn't look great optically for Craig Berube and company.
For many fans, this is a great bit of news and Savard has the unfortunate circumstance of being fired only days before Christmas.
But maybe this is part of a holiday miracle for the Maple Leafs, and it leads to better things in the new year.
