Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Sam McCue is expected to take the next step in his professional career by joining the AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies shortly.
Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Sam McCue could be taking the next step in his professional career, and it won't be long before fans have a chance to see what he can do before he ultimately makes the leap to the NHL.
It's expected that he'll be joining the AHL affiliate Toronto Marlies, now that his year with the OHL's Flint Firebirds has come to a close.
Sam McCue's D+1 season is over. He was held off the board for the entire 5-game series vs. KIT

Sam McCue's Impressive Season Turning Heads
McCue's scouting report via Elite Prospects highlights his skating abilities and reads as follows:
McCue doesn't stop. He skates hard after every puck, collides with every opponent, and battles for every inch of ice. After passing, he skates his routes, sets picks, and pushes back to the defence to create space for his teammates.
McCue split this year between the Firebirds and Owen Sound attack, appearing in 55 games and scoring 55 points (36G, 19A).
Flint acquired him and 4 draft picks from the Owen Sound Attack in exchange for forward Cole Zurawski and a 15th round draft pick. He began his minor-league career after being taken by the Peterborough Petes in the 7th round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.
Drafted 216th in last year's draft, McCue has shown a huge amount of progress this season, and he could very well end up being one of the final cuts this summer with a strong training camp.
It will be interesting to see how McCue adapts to the AHL game, but if his OHL season is any indication, Toronto has another solid prospect on their hands.
