The Toronto Maple Leafs have finally announced the jersey numbers for the new additions they added this offseason.

Per the official Toronto Maple Leafs roster, all of the new additions to the team have been assigned their numbers for the upcoming season.

The Hockey News' David Alter reported this on X on Friday:

Tanev will switch from the #3 he used when he was a member of the Dallas Stars and move to #8; a number most recently used by Jake Muzzin.

Cedric Pare, a booming 6'4 center will wear #56 which Erik Gustafsson wore previous; the number itself has only seen six Maple Leafs don the #56 in their history.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson who normally wore #23 will take a big leap up in digits with #95 given that Matthew Knies already commands the number. Ekman-Larsson will become the first Maple Leaf in history to wear the #95, etching his name in the storied lifespan of the team.

Jani Hakanpaa will suit up with the #28 which has been worn by several Maple Leafs throughout history but most notably Tie Domi; though it seems Hakanpaa will find himself in less fights this season. Dakota Mermis, signed from Minnesota this offseason, wears #36 which is a number Leafs fans should be familiar with.

Both Carl Gunnarsson and Dmitry Yushkevich donned the number in their time with Toronto and Mermis has some decently sized shoes to fill in that jersey. Philippe Myers is going to wear #51 this season, a number synonymous with Jake Gardiner; a mainstay of the Maple Leafs for 7 seasons. Hildeby will don the #35; a number typically reserved for goalies and has been used by Vesa Toskala as well as most recently Ilya Samsonov.

Though many numbers are taken due to sentimental or personal reasons, often times it depends on who is currently on the team. Unlike football, baseball, or basketball; a jersey number normally stays with one player for the most part and it's few and far between we hear stories of buying your jersey number.

Let's just hope that whatever number they decide to wear is engraved on Lord Stanley's Cup at the end of June.
