After suffering an injury on Saturday night, Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander will be absent on Sunday night for their back to back against Detroit.
On Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs came away with the 7-5 win over the Ottawa Senators in a Battle of Ontario that was filled with lots of excitement as well as its fair share of animosity.
However it wasn't all great for Toronto as they lost William Nylander to an injury in the second period and he did not return. Post-game he made the trip to Detroit in a positive sign, and it gave hope things weren't serious.
Though it's at least serious enough to keep Nylander out of the lineup on Sunday night.
According to Craig Berube, Nylander is considered day-to-day for the Maple Leafs and will be reassessed meanwhile Easton Cowan will find his way back into the lineup in lieu of the star winger's absence.
That's the only change for the Maple Leafs that has been announced and though there could be more changes, it seems that Nylander's absence is the only one for Sunday night.
It's a frustrating bit of news given how good he has been over the last two games, and that the dreaded 'day-to-day' status means he could miss anywhere from a couple days to a month in Maple Leafs land.
Nylander, 29, has 41 points in 33 games this season (14 goals, 27 assists) and has just come off a five point stretch over the last two games (3 goals, 2 assists).
Cowan, who takes his place, has been scratched for the last three games with Craig Berube stating he wanted to get him back in the lineup soon, and it seems Nylander's injury facilitated that; he has 11 points in 26 games (4 goals, 7 assists) in his first season in the NHL.
While we wait and see what is going on with Nylander, Toronto is going to try and utilize their brand new power play even more and try to make it three wins in a row with a victory in Detroit on Sunday.
