Maple Leafs Injury Tracker: New update on defenseman Chris Tanev (Dec. 6)

This is the HockeyPatrol Toronto Maple Leafs Injury Tracker, updated regularly with the latest news on player injuries, returns, and lineup changes.
Update (Dec. 6, 11:47 AM): Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev took the ice in a red non-contact jersey on Saturday, skating with the rest of the team for the first time since Nov 1.
Craig Berube later stated that the team will evaluate Tanev and try and get him more involved going forward.
There is no official publicly known timeline for Tanev's return.
Update (Dec. 1, 1:11 PM): According to The Hockey News' David Alter, Simon Benoit has returned to practice after missing Saturday's game due to personal reasons.
Toronto also saw the return of Oliver Ekman-Larsson after he left Saturday's game vs. Pittsburgh late in the game. The team did not specify any injury with the veteran, and both Craig Berube and William Nylander were optimistic about his return.
It's unknown if Benoit or Ekman-Larsson will suit up for the Maple Leafs on Tuesday against Florida and the team has not released a projected or official lineup yet.
Update (Nov. 28, 3:27 PM): Per head coach Craig Berube, forward William Nylander will not play Friday afternoon vs. Washington with an illness.

Update (Nov 24. 2:01 PM): According to both Nick Barden and Terry Koshan, the Toronto Maple Leafs saw five players return to the ice: Auston Matthews, Matthew Knies, Nic Roy, Chris Tanev, and Marshall Rifai.
It's a huge step forward as Toronto still navigates the early part of the season with a depleted lineup, though no timeline has been given for any of the five players.
Update (Nov. 22 12:36 PM): Per TSN's Mark Masters, both Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies were seen on the ice Saturday ahead of Toronto's game however both men are not scheduled to play and still remain out.
It's a positive sign towards the return of both men though their timelines have yet to be determined by the club.
Update (Nov. 21 1:52 PM): Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube updated the statuses of Nic Roy, Chris Tanev, Brandon Carlo, and Anthony Stolarz, noting all four players are still a ways away from returning:
Update (Nov. 19 7:28 PM): Forward Matthew Knies, who missed Tuesday's game vs. St. Louis has avoided any serious damage according to Nick Alberga, and is listed as day to day:
Knies has been stellar this season with 22 points in 19 games including 17 assists.
Update (Nov. 19 12:00 PM): Forward Sammy Blais was seen on the ice after leaving the game Tuesday in which he was later seen coughing up blood in a scary scene post-game.
It's a great sign considering the severity of the situation.
Update (Nov. 18 10:30 AM): In a follow up to yesterday's comments, Craig Berube admitted there is no definitive timeline for either Auston Matthews or Chris Tanev's return.
However both men were seen skating on Tuesday as they try to get back into shape:
Update (Nov. 17 12:45 PM): Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube revealed to reporters at practice that the team would be missing four players against St. Louis on Tuesday:
Toronto will be without captain Auston Matthews, forwards Scott Laughton and Nicolas Roy, and defenseman Brandon Carlo leaving the team shorthanded and needing to stretch their depth to keep a full lineup.
Update (Nov. 15 2:35 PM): The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they have placed Anthony Stolarz on the IR retroactive to Nov. 11.
Stolarz was injured in Toronto's 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, Nov. 11; he left the game after the first.
Update (Nov. 11, 1:21 PM): Toronto forward Scott Laughton is progressing nicely after suffering an upper-body injury on Saturday against the Boston Bruins.
He wanted to get on the ice so he's going in the right direction.
There is currently no timeline for Laughton's return.
Update (Nov. 9, 5:25 PM): Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube revealed ahead of Sunday's game vs. the Hurricanes that Scott Laughton would be taken out of the lineup and his return timeline is unknown:
Laughton left the game Saturday night after receiving a hit from Boston's Nikita Zadorov.
Update (Nov. 8, 9:32 PM): The Toronto Maple Leafs announced that forward Scott Laughton would not be returning to the game after taking a big hit from Boston's Nikita Zadorov.
It's a tough break for Laughton who just returned against the Utah Mammoth after missing a month with a lower-body injury.
Update (Nov. 5, 11:00 AM): Wednesday's practice ahead of Toronto's game against Utah saw the return of Anthony Stolarz to the ice after missing practice Tuesday as he projects to start yet again for the Maple Leafs.
Also we will likely see the return of Brandon Carlo, who also missed practice yesterday for a rest day after a long night against Pittsburgh.
Update (Nov. 4, 6:15 PM): While Brandon Carlo and Anthony Stolarz missed practice on Tuesday, it was seen as a maintenance day and Craig Berube indicated they will likely be in the lineup on Wednesday:
Update (Nov. 4, 1:30 PM): Both Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Baron Carlo and goaltender Anthony Stolarz were both absent from practice after Monday's game against Pittsburgh, though there is no word as to what their absences may be due to.
Update (Nov. 3, 11:45 AM): Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube gave an update regarding defenseman Chris Tanev after he was released from hospital on Sunday:
According to the coach, Tanev is doing fine and responding well after heading back home to Toronto; a huge positive after such a scary incident.
Update (Nov. 2, 11:08 AM): The Toronto Maple Leafs announced defenseman Chris Tanev was evaluated in a Philadelphia hospital overnight, and was discharged on Sunday morning and cleared to return home to Toronto:
It's a positive sign that Tanev has been given the all clear though it's going to take a considerable amount of time before we see him on the ice.
Update (Nov. 2, 10:19 AM): Head coach Craig Berube says Chris Tanev is undergoing evaluation at a Philadelphia hospital and while there's good news considering he is moving around; his status as of now remains unknown:
I think he'll be alright.
Berube will likely give an update regarding Tanev as soon as he has a better idea of the game plan going forward, though don't expect him to be on the ice anytime soon.
Update (Nov. 1, 12:20 PM): Forward William Nylander will not be participating in Saturday's game against the Flyers, as Craig Berube confirmed. This is Nylander's third game out of four he has missed over a recent stretch.
Nylander ended up getting tangled up awkwardly in the game against Buffalo last week and while he's appeared during warmups previously, he was scratched right before puck drop.
Update (Nov. 1, 12:18 PM): Forward Steven Lorentz was seen skating on Saturday morning after missing practice Friday, though his status is still up in the air.
Update (Oct. 29, 9:40 PM): Forward Steven Lorentz left the game at the end of the second period after crashing head-first into the boards. Lorentz was not on the bench to start the third period.
Update (Oct. 29, 7:30 PM): Craig Berube has stated William Nylander is going to sit out the back to back and will instead have Sammy Blais enter the lineup to make his Maple Leafs debut.
Update (Oct. 28, 10:49 AM): Craig Berube said Calle Jarnkrok (foot) will not be skating against the Calgary Flames after blocking a shot in a previous game.
Update (Oct. 27, 8:32 PM): Craig Berube believes Scott Laughton (lower-body) is close to returning and could end up skating with the team on Friday ahead of their game against his old team the Philadelphia Flyers.
Update (Oct. 27, 7:15 PM): Craig Berube also believes that Chris Tanev could rejoin the team at some point this week as well, but has not confirmed a date. Tanev has been out since knocking heads with New Jersey forward Dawson Mercer.
Update (Oct. 27, 6:40 PM): Joseph Woll has returned to the ice in preparation for his season debut, although GM Brad Treliving has noted that he will be doing some conditioning beforehand, and that a Nov. 1 return is out of the cards.
