On Tuesday it was revealed that Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand would be absent due to an unfortunate death in the family, with the fans showing their support.

Say what you want about his on-ice antics, you can't deny that Brad Marchand is one of the best players of this past decade and a half, and his pesky and sometimes rule-bending nature has led to having tons of admirers and detractors.
But news broke that Marchand would not be appearing for the Panthers as they take on the Anaheim Ducks.

Marchand Absent From Panthers Lineup Against Anaheim

Was there a new injury we are unaware of? Well, we wish it were that simple. No, Marchand unfortunately has to miss the game against the Ducks due to a loss in the family it was announced on Monday:
Per head coach Paul Maurice, Marchand is out and most likely going to take as much time as he needs to gather himself before coming back to the team.
This marks another sad case of a player needing to step away, as we saw Seattle's Brandon Montour doing so earlier for his brother, Nick Foligno for his daughter, and Joseph Woll for an unspecified matter.
It shows that beyond the ice these are more than just athletes, and the human aspect of life can take its toll just as much for them as it can for any one of us.

Hockey Community Sends Support After Difficult News

And regardless of your opinion on Marchand, he needs the best possible environment to heal in, and it seems like the NHL fans are rallying around him when he needs it most.
Putting petty grudges and team rivalries aside, the fans took to social media to give their best wishes to Marchand and his family:
Family first always. Condolences to the Marchand family.
With Marchand out, the Panthers will turn to Mackie Samoskevich, who has been a bright spot for Florida with two goals and six points in 10 games.
While Marchand is going to be out for Tuesday, he has not been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Dallas Stars, and head coach Paul Maurice will update fans and media when he has a better idea of the situation.
This goes to show that no matter what happens on the ice, these players have a whole other life to focus on off the rink, and it can often be bigger than the game.
We here at Hockey Patrol would like to offer our best wishes and sincere condolences to Brad Marchand and his family during this difficult time.
