The Toronto Maple Leafs have finally provided a positive update on Scott Laughton's status, which is a major plus for the team who is currently struggling heavily.
The 31-year-old center had been gaining momentum following a strong preseason and the desire to improve after struggling to gain offense following a move at the trade deadline from the Philadelphia Flyers where he had spent his 12-year NHL career up to that point.
With Laughton looking for a rebound, a new update now gives some positivity towards Laughton's return, giving a potential major boost for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the coming days.
Scott Laughton Nears Return as Toronto Looks for a Spark
An update from the Leafs is a positive in terms of Scott Laughton's return, signaling that he is
nearing a possible return to action, and at least some optimism he'll be with the team soon.
According to Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, there is belief that Laughton could resume skating as soon as tomorrow. Laughton would be skating by himself, but provides the first major barrier cleared for Laughton's return to the game.
Berube did not commit to Laughton being 100% certain to be back tomorrow, but says that Laughton is trending well, and that the hope is for him to be back practicing with the Leafs soon, although the timeline is still in wait.
Laughton was
key for the Leafs in the preseason, having strong chemistry with
Steven Lorentz and
Easton Cowan in what was projected to be Toronto's fourth line before Laughton went down, moving Cowan to the sidelines, and later up onto the first line.
It was a rebound that Laughton was hoping for, having just four points in 20 games after being acquired by Toronto, along with just two points in 13 playoff games.
The trade has had its detractors, due to having given up a first-round pick and a top prospect in
Nikita Grebenkin for him to bring offense to the Leafs bottom-six.
If Scott Laughton is able to be back soon for Toronto, it will be a major boost to the Toronto Maple Leafs in their goal to have as healthy of a roster as they can field and for Laughton to showcase the improved player he wants to show he can be.
Right now, they need all the help they can get.
