Both Matias Maccelli and Max Domi have been less than impressive with the Maple Leafs, and with desperate times looming they could be on the move. But despite their lack of production, Toronto could still walk away with a decent draft haul.

Maccelli and Domi have been unimpressive this season, and despite picking things up recently, with the former having five points over his last six (3 goals, 2 assists), and the latter showing much more goal scoring prowess (4 goals over his last 11 games), the lack of consistency throughout the season has been a growing concern and part of why Toronto's in the position they are.
As the Toronto Maple Leafs look to become sellers at March 6th's deadline, the talk of the town over the past several days has been who exactly is going to be traded. Bobby McMann and Oliver Ekman-Larsson are the two likeliest candidates with about a half dozen more on the table.
There's several draft picks up for grabs as the Maple Leafs mull their decision to make big changes or not, and with the news that the team is expected to widen their trade options ahead of the deadline it really feels like Domi and Maccelli are prime candidates to be dealt.
According to David Pagnotta, that's what the Maple Leafs have in mind too.

Max and Matias on the list for Maple Leafs trade candidates

Appearing on Jeff Marek's The Sheet, Pagnotta noted that both Maccelli and Domi are not only in play, but it sounds like the Maple Leafs have been trying to get them off their hands for a bit:
Mattias Maccelli, Max Domi, these are two guys who you know, they've been trying to move.
It isn't too surprising to hear both men's names come up as they haven't really been a perfect fit for the team and have definitely been a minor disappointment.

Why Domi and Maccelli could end up being dealt this deadline

Domi had a great first year in Toronto which earned him a lengthy extension with trade protection, and with that being a flash in the pan; it makes his contract harder to move.
Just this year he started to play more to his expectations but has been basically a third-liner at best.
Domi, 30, has 31 points in 58 games (9 goals, 22 assists) but with a ghastly minus-20 and playing some of the worst defence of his career; he is owed $3.75-million for the next two seasons and only has 111 points in 212 games with Toronto.
He's never hit double digit goals in Toronto despite multiple 20+ goal seasons, has much less discipline on the ice and his shooting has plummeted since coming over; last year he didn't even hit 100 shots on goal for the season.
It's hard to see a team taking him on given the production and money costs, but a young team with a lot of space might be interested in Domi as a mentor; someone like San Jose or Chicago (which he has familiarity with).
Maccelli was a gamble on a young player who had great numbers to start his career but struggled last year. He wanted more of a chance and got it in Toronto but has been nowhere near the 50-60 point player the team needed.
The 25-year-old has 25 points in 49 games (10 goals, 15 assists) and while has picked it up on the second line with John Tavares and William Nylander -- it may be a bit too late. A restricted free agent after this year, he makes $3.425-million for this season.
But don't forget, Maccelli is only two seasons removed from a 57-point year and his firs three seasons saw him register 112 points (29 goals, 83 assists) in 169 games -- a 0.66 PPG pace.
That's why Toronto took a chance on him, and still being so young he has the chance to replicate that, which is why he may be more enticing for some teams, but also why the Maple Leafs refused to deal him earlier this year.
It's hard to say what package either player could bring back though. In the case of Domi, his veteran leadership and lineup versatility could be appealing to a contender but he won't come with a huge package attached.
Maccelli may be able to bring back something purely based off his age and potential alone, but it's not a guarantee; though he is young enough to be a factor for Toronto going forward if they choose to re-sign him.
While this is not a sign that both men are going to be traded, with Toronto looking at all options ahead of the trade deadline -- there's always a chance.
