The Buffalo Sabres are sending assistant GM Marc Bergevin as part of a contingent of scouts watching the Maple Leafs/Flyers game on Monday night per a social media report on X.

With the trade deadline closing in, the Toronto Maple Leafs are a team with all eyes on them as they try to navigate which direction they want to go. Do they sell and recoup assets, or perhaps buy high on someone now to give them a chance next season?
Either way, there are going to be changes made nonetheless, because if not then it might be an issue for GM Brad Treliving going forward.

But there sounds like there may be a bit of traction when it comes to a potential deal and it involves their QEW rivals, the Buffalo Sabres.
According to reports, the Sabres are sending a quartet of scouts to the game in order to make sure they have more than enough eyes on certain players and make the right decision going forward.
There's no indication of who the Sabres are targeting, and they very well could also be looking at players like Rasmus Ristolainen from the Flyers. But if they are looking at the Maple Leafs they certainly have a few names to keep an eye out for.

Who could Buffalo target from the Maple Leafs?

Bobby McMann is probably the top name to go this season, and he would be an absolutely steal for GM Jarmo Kekkalainen and the Sabres; adding a 20-goal scorer with tons of speed and physicality for pennies on the dollar.
Tage Thompson would love to have a speedy scorer alongside him and McMann makes a ton of sense. With Buffalo in a very good spot, adding another offensive weapon could push them over the top.
Otherwise, they could take a look on defense at a guy like Oliver Ekman-Larsson and try to add some more offense on their back end. He would be a perfect compliment to Bowen Byram, Rasmus Dahlin, and Owen Power while also mentoring the younger Sabres blueliners.
It will be interesting to see how both men play on Monday as they try to boost their value and perhaps give the Maple Leafs an advantage by leveraging a short hot streak heading into Friday.
But for now, it's going to be all eyes on Toronto -- with the Sabres seemingly keeping tabs as much as they possibly can.
