Leafs backup plan revealed after missing out on Jacob Markstrom per Insider
Today a new report has come out linking the Toronto Maple Leafs to a pair of goalies after the team lost out on trading for former Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking to acquire a goalie to go along with Joseph Woll heading into next season. Many fans were hoping the answer would be proven starter Jacob Markstrom however that dream was dashed after he was traded to the New Jersey Devils earlier this week.
JACOB MARKSTROM IS A NEW JERSEY DEVIL
The @NJDevils have acquired Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames.
With that plan put to the side the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving now need a plan B.
Elliotte Friedman reveals who the Maple Leafs are expected to target in Free Agency
A new report from Elliotte Friedman during 32 Thoughts has linked the Maple Leafs to two potential options Anthony Stolarz and Laurent Brossoit.
We know Toronto is in the goalie market but I think that's more of an Anthony Stolarz, Laurent Brossoit type piece.
When Elliotte Friedman says an Anthony Stolarz or Laurent Brossoit type piece he means a high-end backup goalie. Both players have never been the main starter for a team in their careers.
However, both have shown the ability to fill in for long stretches when needed. This likely means that the Toronto Maple Leafs expect to go into next season with Joseph Woll as their starter.
As NHL Free Agency approaches quickly it remains to be seen what will happen with the Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending situation. One thing is for certain Brad Treliving and his staff need to be sure of the goalie they bring in to go with Joseph Woll.
