The Toronto Maple Leafs could be at the risk of a potential offer sheet from former GM Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Dubas, now the General Manager for the Pittsburgh Penguins, left the Leafs organization in 2023. In that time, Dubas has brought on former Leafs both on and off the ice, including Noel Acciari, Radim Zohorna, & Michael Bunting for players, and hiring Leafs FO talents Jason Spezza, Wes Clark & Chris Roque, the last two being scouts swooped shortly after the 2024 NHL Draft.
A recent report suggest the Penguins may not be done grabbing from the Leafs.
The rumor alleges Robertson could be offer sheeted for $2.1M, giving Toronto a third-round pick in 2025 if they do not match.
Speculation over potential future offer sheets have increased in discussion after the St. Louis Blues successfully executed dual offer sheets for Edmonton Oilers youngsters Dylan Holloway & Philip Broberg, both of whom were acquired by the Blues after Edmonton declined to match the offer sheet set by St. Louis.
Robertson has requested a trade publicly over a lack of chances in a crowded Leafs lineup. A move to a less deep Penguins forward group, and familiarity with Kyle Dubas, the man who drafted Robertson, gives an obvious connection that would be beneficial to both him and the Penguins.
Robertson had 14 goals, 13 assists & 27 points in 56 games played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2023-24 NHL season.
