Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll let in arguably one of the worst goals of his career against San Jose on Saturday and commented on the blunder.

Coming off a terribly humbling shootout loss to the worst team in the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to salvage the rest of their California road trip with stops in Los Angeles and Anaheim before heading back home to face Florida.
One of the five goals given up by Woll was thanks to a simple lapse in judgement, as Woll was trying to play the puck, but ended up passing it directly into William Eklund's skate, and rebounded back into the net under Woll. It was embarrassing to say the least.

Joseph Woll Comments On Embarrassing Goal Against San Jose

Woll has broken his silence on the matter and while he was regretful about letting the goal in, he explained that in the heat of the moment, sometimes things just don't go your way:
Just a bad play. Sometimes you make bad plays. I was looking up ice. My brain turned off for a second, and it's unfortunate. Once something like that happens, you have to do your best to put it behind you. There's no point in lingering on it.

It certainly isn't a good look for Woll or the Maple Leafs, but it can't solely fall on the young goaltender's shoulders.
The team needed to put in a complete effort against the Sharks and had to fight to keep pace with a relentless and hungry team out to prove they aren't the laughing stock of the NHL.
It also puts into question the starter come playoff time, give that Craig Berube is still a bit unsure about his direction heading there, and the next couple of weeks is going to be the determining factor in who laces up for Game One.
At the current rate, it doesn't look like Woll will be the one starting, as he's struggled as of recently giving up 15 goals over his last five and his last solid game was against Colorado; which even then was a tough game through and through.
This season even with the struggles, Woll has been solid. Posting a 24-13-1 record with a 2.80 GAA and .905 SV%, those numbers have dropped in recent games, but is still going to be a factor come playoff time either as the starter (if he picks it up) or if Anthony Stolarz struggles in the spotlight.
It's been a rough bit of time for Joseph Woll lately, but there is still a lot of time for him to turn things around.
They'll need him too, because if Toronto's goaltending lets them down yet again, it's another swift exit, which could mean some big, big changes this summer.
