Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll made his first media appearance since his leave of absence and wanted to focus solely on the future and not his past.

Taking a personal leave of absence in order to tend to a personal matter, Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll is almost ready to get back into game action and make his 2025 debut, albeit after a quick conditioning stint.
He's more than excited to be back with everyone, and the sentiment is the same around the locker room as the team has felt like it's been missing a vital part of not only their lineup, but their heart.

Woll Addresses His Absence Briefly Before Redirecting the Conversation

Friday was the first time he made a media appearance and in anticipation of returning to the ice, wanted to give everyone a lot of thanks for their support.
But he also made sure to note that whatever he was dealing with is behind him, and he wants to focus on what's next, not what's happened:
I've really been blown away by how much support I've received. I've kind of decided that all I'm going to say about my time away is that I'm disappointed to have missed time & I'm very happy to be back.

I'd really like all the focus to be on my job to do here. I don't want to create any distractions for myself or for the team.
There is always going to be speculation about what went on with the goaltender, however it's really not any of our business and the fact that Woll is close to coming back means we can probably put all of this to rest.
Plus for what it's worth, Anthony Stolarz would love him back soon as he would give him a much needed break as well as the team tries to manage his workload.

How the Maple Leafs Plan to Handle Joseph Woll's Return

Woll is expected to make his first start for the Marlies (potentially his only one) on Saturday night as the Marlies take on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and should be able to find enough rhythm to come back and make an impact for the Maple Leafs.
Last season, Woll posted a 27-14-1 record with a 2.73 GAA and .909 SV% as part of a fantastic duo with Anthony Stolarz; being the first tandem in franchise history to have won 20+ games each.
He might not immediately jump into a game however if he feels comfortable after the Marlies game, he could see action next Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings.
So for now, all we can look towards is Joseph Woll finally making his season debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and looking forward; it seems like all focus is on making sure the team has their brick wall in net once again without any unnecessary distractions.
