Joel Edmundson made his first big step in his injury recovery today, as he was seen on the ice for the Toronto Maple Leafs during their pregame skate. This was the first time he had returned to the ice since he suffered his injury.
Edmundson has an undisclosed injury, adding to the Leafs' defensive injury woes as he and Morgan Rielly have missed time this week. This has put additional pressure on other Leaf defensemen to step up, like TJ Brodie, Mark Giordano, and other new additions Ilya Lyubushkin.
Joel Edmundson has performed well in his first few appearances with the Leafs, with a plus-4 rating over 7 games. He has yet to record a point for Toronto, however, that is not what the Leafs brought him in to do.
While the Leafs want a fully healthy roster as soon as possible, there is no sense in rushing anyone back to the lineup before the playoffs, as they will need everyone at 100 percent once the post-season comes.
