The Toronto Maple Leafs recently added to their prospect pool by signing top NCAA free agent Jacob Quillan out of Quinnipiac University. Today, the forward revealed why he chose to sign with the Maple Leafs.
Quillan grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia but was raised a Leafs fan. As such, he is currently living out his childhood dream of playing for the organization. He is now just one step removed from making his debut with his favorite NHL club. It is the most difficult step to make, but one that Quillan is capable of. Toronto Marlies head coach John Gruden already seems to be a fan of Quillan, emphasizing his size and tendency to go to the net as advantages for the AHL rookie.
While Quillan likely won't play in a top-six role for the Leafs, perhaps he has a few more clutch goals in his future in the NHL. Hopefully for the Leafs, he will help the team win their own championship. It won't be the team's first, but it would be the first in a very long time assuming the Leafs don't win the Stanley Cup this year.
