Things have gone from bad to worse for Brandon Carlo as it's reported he may miss more time than initially thought.

After an injury suffered Nov. 13th against the Los Angeles, Brandon Carlo has missed the last seven games for Toronto, and is in line to potentially miss more.
A new update from Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube reveals the news that was becoming a growing concern in that Carlo will be out for longer than initially expected, with his return up in the air.

How Craig Berube Explained Brandon Carlo's recovery 'not going the way we thought'

According to Craig Berube, the recovery process for Brandon Carlo isn't going the way the team had hoped for, and the Leafs defenseman will be out longer than initially thought.
Berube says that it appears that Carlo will probably need some sort of surgical procedure, but not saying anything about the specifics of Carlo's injury, or how long he'd be out for.
Carlo had been reported yesterday to have had some sort of "setback", with Berube saying after Carlo left the Leafs road trip that he'd have to consult with doctors over his health.
Brandon Carlo's injury is no longer day-to-day, with surgery likely to put him out long-term, although a more exact idea of his timeline won't be known until surgery is done and a recovery timeline is offered by the team.

Why Carlo's setback puts even more pressure on the rest of the Leafs defense

The absence of Brandon Carlo is a bigger difficulty for the Toronto Maple Leafs in being able to make up for his absence from the Leafs roster.
One of the leading defensive defensemen on the team, Carlo was already carrying more of a load with the injury to fellow defenseman Chris Tanev, who makes up the defensive-minded side of the Leafs top-four.
More defensive responsibilities may be tasked upon the more offensive-oriented defenders on the top-four, Morgan Rielly and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, the expectation for the two to step up in their own end.
Recent waiver acquisition Troy Stecher and infrequently used Philippe Myers make up the right-side of the Leafs roster with Tanev and Carlo out, adding less of an experienced veteran punch.
The Leafs have the most goals allowed in the Eastern Conference with 89, the injuries to Tanev and Carlo making things even more challenging for a Leafs team that is already having issues defensively.
With Brandon Carlo potentially out for an extended period of time, it's now up to the rest of the Leafs defensive core to step up and play a reliable shutdown game for Toronto.
