Chris Johnston shares update on Joseph Woll's timeline for return
This NHL insider just gave a massive update on Joseph Woll's injury, and when Leaf fans can expect to see him return to the lineup.
Chris Johnston Reveals Woll's Injury Doesn't Have Standard Timeline
With Ilya Samsonov's return to the Toronto Maple Leafs, many fans are curious when Joseph Woll could potentially make his return as well. Woll has been out with a high ankle sprain since December 8th, which sparked some concern for Leaf fans who were worried that Martin Jones wouldn't be up to the task of the number 1 spot. While he proved he certainly was, Leaf fans are still anxious to see Woll get healthy and return to game play.
Now, Chris Johnston has just given a massive update on Woll's injury and why there is no distinct timeline for his return.
"I don't think it's a timeline like you might have with a different kind of injury, just because the nature of a high-ankle sprain is kind of unique... Ultimately, he's back skating and doing his work and so it's about how comfortable he feels in there.
All along, the Leafs sort of were saying it would probably be after the All-Star break. I think that's pretty evident now that we're this close, with just two games left until the Leafs have their bye week and All-Star break. I would think somewhere on the other end of that in early February, we'll be getting closer and closer to where Joseph Woll is really ramping it up and we'll get a clear sense of when he might be ready to play again."
Leafs Goaltending Looking Stable After Rocky First Half of the Season
Panic set in during the first half of the season with regards to the goaltending position, after Ilya Samsonov had one of the worst starts to a season in his career and was sent to the minors, and then Woll went down with his injury, it was well reported that the Leafs were looking at the goaltending market.
Now, they can be happy that they didn't let the panic get the best of them, as it appears Samsonov has gotten some of his game back, and Martin Jones is worthy of holding it down when Samsonov can't. When Woll returns, it may just be the case that the Leafs have an extra goaltender to move for some more necessary assets.
