NHL insider Nick Kypreos has made his pick for who is his starting goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which begin next month.
It's going to be a critical spring for the
Toronto Maple Leafs, as they must go on an extended postseason run; should they falter early yet again, major changes could be coming.
Right now, the Leafs are set in the crease with the tandem of
Joseph Woll and
Anthony Stolarz, the latter of which joined Toronto during the summer from the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
According to NHL analyst Nick Kypreos, the Leafs should roll with Joseph Woll for the playoffs,
which begin next month.
Unless there's a major setback in Joseph Woll's game, I think he's leaning towards being the guy that starts the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Maple Leafs.
It's nice to play a lot. It's easier to get in that rhythm and that groove. When you're playing, you're not really thinking. I just try to do my job when I'm called upon.
I'll continue to do that.
Woll replaced
Ilya Samsonov in the crease during the postseason last year and started 2 straight games, both wins, before getting hurt at the end of Game 6 against the Bruins; Samsonov returned for Game 7, a 2-1 OT loss to knock them out of the playoffs.
So far this year, Woll has gone 24-12-0 with a .908 SV% and a 2.70 GAA; he also has a lone shutout.
Meanwhile, Stolarz has gone 13-8-3 with a .918 SV% and a 2.39 GAA with one lone shutout in his 1st year with the Leafs; he missed considerable time after undergoing a knee operation earlier in the year.
