Mitch Marner has been the talk of the town since the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated by the Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers, and now Frank Seravalli has shut down a potential landing spot.

Mitch Marner will no doubt be paid handsomely this summer. The pending unrestricted free agent has no shortage of teams vying for his services, and he is expected to sign one of the largest, if not the largest, deals in NHL history.
Recently, insider David Pagnotta revealed that the Carolina Hurricanes were willing to go upwards of $14 million to land the Leafs' superstar.
A deal north of $14 million would make Marner the highest-paid player in hockey history, and it would be difficult to turn an offer like that down.

However, insider Frank Seravalli has just shut down the possibility of Marner heading to the Hurricanes as he claimed that he did not see the Toronto-native heading to the City of Oaks.

Even with a record-breaking offer, it appears that it may not be enough to entice the superstar to go to Carolina.
The Hurricanes tried to acquire Marner at the trade deadline in exchange for Mikko Rantanen, ensuring both the Leafs and themselves would be able to have a superstar long-term.
However, Marner turned down the trade by declining his no-movement clause, thus nixing the deal Brad Treliving and Eric Tulsky were working on.

Mitch Marner going to get paid regardless, but at what cost?

With Marner rejecting the trade during March, it does appear that it would make little sense for him to head to the Hurricanes in the summer.
Marner, originally drafted by the Leafs in 2015 fourth overall, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Leafs.
He has been one of the most prolific players in Maple Leafs history and is coming off of a career year where he scored 102 points, notching 27 goals and a mind-boggling 75 assists, which was behind only Nikita Kucherov and Nathan MacKinnon and ahead of Connor McDavid.
Regardless of what happens with Marner this summer, his next deal will be one of the most expensive in NHL history and he will be expected to produce at that level, potentially away from one of the greatest goal scorers of our generation, Auston Matthews.
If not, then whoever decides to pay him for his services are going to feel some heavy buyer's remorse.
