Still torn on this one: Lafferty is a serviceable pro who can fill different roles. I'm a proponent of #PlayYerKids but could this mean the Leafs need more out of Minten, Holmberg etc than they can give?
Wouldn't surprise me if something else big-ish happens soon.
Joshua Kloke of The Athletic took to social media following the trade to announce that he believes more is coming from the Leafs' front office, which is entirely plausible when you consider the limbo of the Leafs' current bottom-six.
What Could It Be?
While the move could be something as small as signing Noah Gregor, officially adding him to the mix after a very successful PTO, it could potentially be much bigger.
With young guys such as Fraser Minten and Pontus Holmberg desperately pushing to keep their spots in the lineup ahead of opening night, Treliving has a tough decision to make.
If the club deems that their young guns aren't ready for a full NHL season, they could opt to send them down and try to acquire a more established, veteran player to fill their absence.
We don't know for sure who this will be, but there are lots of interesting names on waivers as of this afternoon, and it's entirely plausible that Toronto will try to jump on one and secure their roster.
