A goaltender linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs is being traded to the San Jose Sharks following speculation and Leafs interest.

The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly trading goaltender Laurent Brossoit, along with defenseman Nolan Allan and a 2028 seventh round pick to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Ryan Ellis, prospect defenseman Jake Furlong, and a 2028 fourth round pick.
The trade, confirmed by multiple reports, was first reported by Elliotte Friedman that Brossoit was being traded to San Jose. Jay Cohen of The Associated Press first reported the full return.
Brossoit was linked heavily as a trade target for a few teams as it was reported previously that he would likely be dealt, with the Toronto Maple Leafs as one team looking at the netminder.

Brossoit acquired by Sharks along with former first-rounder Allan

The San Jose Sharks acquire Laurent Brossoit after reports indicated a deal was nearing as Brossoit sought NHL time. Brossoit cleared waivers back in December as he returned to playing after two years away.
The 32-year-old Brossoit was acquired by the Blackhawks in 2024 from the Winnipeg Jets, but did not play for Chicago as he underwent surgery that caused him to miss all of last season.
Brossoit played in six games this season in the AHL for the Blackhawks affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, having a 3-3-0 record with a 3.38 GAA and a .901 SV%.
San Jose's netminders, Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic, have a combined .894 SV% on the season, with Brossoit having the potential to get proper minutes with the Sharks.
Nolan Allan, acquired in the deal by San Jose, was a first round pick of the Blackhawks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, 32nd overall.
Allan, 22, has spent the season in Rockford with six points in 29 games this season. Allan has 43 career NHL games with the Blackhawks, all coming from last season.
Furlong, acquired the other way by Chicago, is a 21-year-old left-handed defenseman who was drafted by the Sharks in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, 140th overall. Furlong has appeared in 12 games this season in the AHL with two points for the San Jose Barracuda.
Ryan Ellis is a former first round pick with 566 career NHL games, but has not played since 2021 due to a back injury believed to be career-ending. Ellis was traded to San Jose from Philadelphia back in October
