After another playoff disappointment in Toronto, there was always going to be some big changes for the Maple Leafs, and those began on Thursday with the official firing of Brendan Shanahan. Now, all eyes turn to President Brendan Shanahan, who has overseen the development of these Maple Leafs that have thus far failed to go on a deep Stanley Cup run.
On paper, Shanahan has helped oversee a very good regular season team, but without the playoff success to back it up, it wouldn't surprise anyone if patience was running thin in Toronto. If Friedman is right however, he will be getting another season to prove that he and this front office can get it done, and with other big time changes coming, it may be what Shanahan and Brad Treliving need to get over the hump.
Ultimately though, they are likely to look at making lineup changes with a new Coach, so at this point, everything in the front office appears to be staying the same going forward.
