"If they do make a Marner trade maybe they don't win the trade' and get a stud defenseman. But I would think a defenseman would be part of that package."
This led to a few reporters linking Marner to the Leafs' former general manager, Kyle Dubas, in Pittsburgh.
The Penguins have interesting defensemen on their roster, and many could tempt Brad Treliving to pull a trade.
"A full deal for the Penguins to acquire Marner would include many extra pieces. Several prospects and draft picks would be involved, but the meat of the deal would center around big names and big contracts."
With only one season remaining on his $11M deal, if the Leafs ends up trading Marner, it'll have to be for players with big contracts and include a few other assets.
It'll be interesting to see what Brad Treliving and the Leafs management decides to do in the coming months. We'll keep you updated on any development regarding this situation.
