The Toronto Maple Leafs lost out on a potential hulking center in Jacob Frasca after he decided to sign with the Reading Royals, hoping for a better shot at playing.

In an offseason that has seen so many faces come and go, the Toronto Maple Leafs have seen their fair share of big names and smaller targets leave for greener pastures.
We saw the departures of Mitch Marner, and Ryan Reaves but also Pontus Holmberg, Alex Steeves, Nick Abruzzese, and recently terminated Ty Voit's contract.

Toronto Loses Out On Intriguing Pivot Prospect

But it seems the team can add one more name to that list, as prospect Jacob Frasca, who spent last season with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, has signed with his brother Jordan and joined the Reading Royals.
Frasca enjoyed a solid OHL career with the Barrie Colts and Soo Greyhounds, and exploded for 69 points in 2022-23 but hasn't come close to that since.
In his lone season with the Cyclones, Frasca had 15 points in 53 games (5 goals, 10 assists) with 48 PIM and a minus-13 rating.
One unfortunate aspect of losing Frasca is the fact that not only is he a center, but he's 6'5 and 215 pounds; a perfect Brad Treliving target who could definitely have slotted in the Marlies bottom-six.

Toronto Needs To Figure Out Best Spot For Free Agents

This leaves the Maple Leafs with a few more free agents to figure out what to do with including Max Pacioretty, Jani Hakanpaa (who may retire) as well as Dennis Hildeby and William Villeneuve.
The Cyclones still also hold some interesting prospects even with the departure of Frasca, as Chas Sharpe, Ryan McCleary, and former Leafs legend Rick Vaive's son Justin; a mainstay for the last several seasons.
With guys like Voit, Joseph Blandisi and Kyle Clifford still awaiting deals (the latter most likely getting another one), there is no shortage of ways Brad Treliving can add more depth by re-signing them, however with all the extra moves he made there might not be a lot of extra room.
So it's likely that anyone who gets signed back is going to head to the ECHL or play depth minutes with the Marlies.
Maybe Frasca won't be the only name heading out of the Leafs organization in the coming weeks.
