Former Maple Leaf Traded in a Deal Between the Blues and Capitals

While we don't normally get trade news on a Monday morning in the first week of November, we do have a minor deal to report.

It was announced that the Washington Capitals had traded former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Calle Rosen to the St Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Corey Schueneman.

Rosen had not yet played for the Capitals this season, having last played in the NHL in 2023-24 with the St. Louis Blues coincidentally, and heads back to the place he played three seasons.

He has actually been solid for the Hersey Bears (AHL) with seven points in nine games (1 goal, 6 assists) and a plus-3 rating.

Schueneman has played four games for the Blues this season, registering no points, seven blocks, one hit, and a plus/minus of zero; he was part of the Montreal Canadiens organization for two seasons before heading to St. Louis as a free agent.

Maple Leafs fans will know Rosen not for his output in Toronto, but for being part of one of the most debated trades of recent memory. Rosen was packaged along with Nazem Kadri and traded to Colorado for a package involving Tyson Barrie and Alex Kerfoot.

But few remember he was quickly traded back to Toronto for goaltender Michael Hutchinson, but quietly fizzled out.

Now the 31-year old will get a chance to hopefully revitalize his career with the Blues, a team mired in the basement of the Central Division, and who lack a true puck mover on their back end.
