Former First-Round Pick Could Be Ideal Trade Target for Maple Leafs

Former first-round pick Fabian Lysell could be a solid depth addition for the Maple Leafs after reports show that Boston may be giving up on him already.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs always looking to add more depth to their lineup, they have several options they can choose from either in the
free agent market (and PTO's) or find a trade for a smaller name that won't cost them their future.
The issue right now is the team's lack of cap and roster space, so until a move is done there isn't much they can do. But if they were willing to get rid of one of their young prospects they may have the chance to bring in a different one.
Bruins Shopping Lynsell: Reports
According to new reports, the Boston Bruins are potentially looking to move on from rookie Fabian Lynsell, as there are some concerns that he has some early consistency issues and doesn't make the best fit in Beantown:
Rumors are swirling that the Bruins are dangling Lynsell in a trade with Edmonton.
Why would the Bruins want to move on from one of their most talented, young prospects? Why would they consider him a trade chip?
Well, for one his stock is still relatively high even though he hasn't broken through in Boston yet. Teams around the league know what type of skill set he brings, that makes him one of Boston's few valuable young pieces that could headline a trade.
Let's look at his opportunities so far: He's been with Providence for the most part, we've seen flashes where you see why'd he'd be a first round pick but hasn't dominated the way you want.
He's been streaky, his compete level has been questioned at times, and his consistency has been an issue.
Could the Leafs and Bruins Line Up a 1-for-1 Swap?
So if the Bruins are looking to get away from Lynsell, perhaps the Maple Leafs could find a way to turn him around. Toronto has their own inconsistent and streaky player in Nick Robertson who
needs a change of scenery and could play meaningful minutes in Boston.
The issue is that Robertson has at least established himself a bit meanwhile the consistency issues are already popping up only 12 games into Lynsell's career.
But if there's anyone who can get his head straight and focused on being a more well-rounded and complete player it's Craig Berube, who won't be shy about giving him an earful if he feels he's not hustling.
What Landing a Former First-Round Pick Would Mean for Toronto
Well, there's always something to be said about adding a first-round pick woh is only 22 (and Swedish to boot) but it is going to take a lot to maximize his potential.
If there are genuine concerns about his consistency, then he needs to make sure that he takes whatever constructive criticism he receives and improve in the areas he needs to, and if he can add a bit more physicality that would benefit him greatly.
But he's essentially going to take the spot of Robertson as Toronto's potentially game-changing prospect who needs a lot of work. Is that worth losing Robertson on the off-chance Lynsell actually becomes something?
The prestige of having a first-round pick is something that entices a lot of teams to make moves for potential future superstars.
But as is the case a lot of the times, the hype is often more exciting than the end result.
